The Print Revolution in America: A Renaissance

Sigmund Abeles: Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, Sigmund Abeles spent his formative years in Myrtle Beach, SC. As a young man he spent countless hours sketching and drawing the sculptures in nearby Brookgreen Gardens. This discipline for the artist focused his attention in an intense and empathetic investigation of the human figure, and was to define his work for his entire career.

First and foremost, Abeles believes that an artist needs to draw well in order to communicate what he sees, senses and dreams about, and to create visual expression. As you can see, his work walks the walk. The artist divides his time between studios in New York City as well another in Upstate New York.

Abeles work is critically acclaimed with coutless shows and awards. He is an elected member of the prestigious National Academy of Design. His work is in the permanent collections of leading institutions including: the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y.; the Whitney Museum in N.Y.; the Art Institute of Chicago; and the Museum of Modern Art in N.Y.
